Lens designers have created a zoom lens with the ultimate goal of extremely low distortion in a wide angle lens. Distortion correction has been optimised to 0.5% at the wide angle of the range. With the travel photographer in mind, Zeiss was concerned about the use of wide angle for shooting buildings where distortion is least acceptable. This extremely low distortion level is usually only a characteristic of the Zeiss Biogon lenses or the Makro-Planar lenses available for Contax SLRs, but now available in the new G2 Vario Sonnar 35-70 lens.
